Patrick Sayler has been named the new general manager of The Co-op Natural Foods.
Sayler succeeds Molly Langley, who is retiring after being with the co-op as a board member or store manager for about 20 years.
Sayler has 20 years of experience in restaurant and retail businesses in the Twin Cities and Sioux Falls. He said he looks forward to leading a community-based business that strives to provide shoppers high-quality food in sustainable and cost-efficient ways.
“For me, the opportunity to get this leadership position in the community I grew up in is a really big deal,” he said. “I’m honored to have been considered and hired.”
Before returning to Sioux Falls about three years ago, Sayler spent 16 years in the Minneapolis area managing cafes and retail shops. Most recently, he was the general manager at the M.B. Haskett Delicatessen in downtown Sioux Falls. He also has been the general manager of The Phillips Avenue Diner and the bistro manager at Pomegranate Market.
As the general manager of The Co-op Natural Foods, he will oversee an established business that employs about 20 people and does more than $2 million in business a year. One of his immediate priorities will be overseeing the continuing expansion of take-out deli options. Longer term, he will help the co-op expand its brand through such means as expanding the store, entering into business agreements or adding additional locations.
Board members had expected the search for a replacement for Langley could take months longer. But with the help of Alternate HRD, a local human resource development firm, the co-op connected with Sayler.
“The board is excited that we found a local candidate with his experience and expertise. We’re really happy we were able to find him,” board president Alex Halbach said.
Langley will assist with the transition before she fully retires.
“I couldn’t be more delighted that someone with his resume is taking the co-op on when it’s poised for growth. He’s going to bring new energy when we could benefit the most from it,” said Langley, who has been affiliated with the co-op, on and off, since 1995.
